The truth is, there is not a single burial insurance company on the market today that cares about arthritis. As of 2019, there is not a single company that we know that even asks about it on their application. In the world of insurance, if a carrier doesn’t ask about it, then they don’t care. In general, having arthritis is not going to shorten your life or cause you to pass away so, the insurance companies view this health issue as very low risk. Assuming arthritis is the only issue you deal with, you will easily qualify for a level death benefit with every company. The ONLY Way Your Arthritis Could Potentially Complicate Things
If your arthritis was so bad that you needed help with your daily activities, then this would be the only time you could you run into issues. For clarification, the insurance companies define daily activities of living (ADL’s) as any of the following:
- Taking Medication
If you need assistance with any of those items, it becomes VERY difficult to find you a policy that covers you immediately and at a low rate. At that point it doesn’t if matter if it was the arthritis or a different problem that caused you to need the assistance. When an individual can’t perform daily living activities, the insurance company sees this as VERY HIGH RISK and all of a sudden takes a completely different approach to the coverage they’re willing to offer.
At that point, you would need to consider a guaranteed acceptance policy which have no health questions or medical checks of any kind. The policy comes with a two-year waiting period. If you pass away due to natural causes within that two years you would most likely only get your money back, plus 10% interest. Any accidental death would stil be covered 100%. After the 2 years is up, you would be protected in full for life.
As mentioned earlier, we’ve never actually had this situation occur (knock on wood). But its still worth mentioning because it is possible for this to be someone’s situation and you need to know your options if it’s yours.
